The Boss BD-2 Blues Driver is an interesting pedal out of the box. The pedal has a fairly large range of gain and gets a fuzz-like quality flavor at higher gain settings. However, the stock pedal suffered from a more brittle gain/clipping section, loss of dynamics, off balanced Mid section that seems to either contribute to shrill highs or flabby lows (lack of sweet spot control) and low gains did not hold "life" like you would hope.

The PepTone BD-2 Tone Driver Mod was developed to take the pedals unique good features further to produce more character, a favorable EQ, better gain/boost range capabilities and a sweet and more dynamic tone.  This pedal now really lets the musician and amp/guitar combo shine. We take those problems head on and boutique the BD-2 out to a Tone Driving machine.  Keep your tone, just drive it further!

*Gain Mods:

We modify the Gain structure to allow the pedal to clean up more while still giving you the needed hint of edge in tone. The pedal has enough volume now to turn the gain all the way down and the volume all the way up for some sweet boost options. This gives the musician a booster that doesn’t ruin your tone and setup. Whether you want boost, slight-breakup, edgy breakup or flat out high gain tone you can really dial it in. Rich sustain and great harmonics.

*Clipping Mods:

We modify the clipping section to remove the “flabby” compression in the gain/clipping. Now you can feel the gain to be more open and part of the tone rather than separate from your tone; just like you would expect the gain on your amp to react and act. The clipping feels completely natural and true.

*EQ Mods:

We modify the EQ to the max! Polish the highs, shift the lows to remove the flabby gain (at high gains) and give the mids their needed presence. Overall, now the pedal cuts through and holds character but doesn’t shatter away your tone.

*Micro Toggle Mods (Character Switch)

Additionally, we add an EQ switch that does two things at once: This switch activates stronger lows as well as removes some highs and additionally adds a layer of character and fatness. This toggle was made to fine tune the pedal to the gain settings. When on a cleaner setting, the toggle will be engaged in the up position to allow the stronger lows and fatter tone to come in. At a higher gain setting this thickens up the gain significantly but won’t cut through as much as the down position which holds more enhanced highs and a more focused clipping EQ.

The PepTone modified BD-2 keeps single coils sounding like single coils and Humbuckers sounding like Humbuckers. As you switch your pickup selector you can hear each pickup working with the pedal to keep your.

Pedal Tips:

Great pedal when used as a push your amp pedal.  Use for solos, leave on all the time or use it to drive your amp, high gain/sustain...an extremely versatile pedal. Additionally, use this pedal in front of your favorite overdrive distortion and use the BD-2 Mod to kick your favorite distortion or overdrive into further saturation.

This is one of those pedals that uniquely works well with all types of amps.  Low wattage, high wattage, British made, American made...put it to its test.  Again, the PepTone Character Toggle allows you to fine tune the pedal to the bright/warm nature of your setup.
